SMWE’s proprietary magnesium and aluminum-lithium alloys, plus our advanced forging and extrusion technologies that are enhanced by innovative heat treatment techniques, result in improved inherent microstructure and superior alloy properties. We are able to reduce considerably the weight of an existing or newly-designed component--up to a 25% reduction in the final product. Additionally, certain properties contribute to the superior performance of a given final component, e.g., enhanced strain rate sensitivity and resistance characteristics for magnesium (with the highest dampening ability among all industrial metals), allowing it to absorb energy at very high strain rates.

A central part of SMWE’s business is design and production of a variety of light metallurgical fabrications and products for the automotive industry. Through our Wrought Products Division we design to customers' specifications, manufacture and supply premium quality magnesium parts and components to numerous international companies. We have become a global leader in forged magnesium wheels production.
Our exploration and mining affiliate, SMW Gold, is developing several international concessions and has ongoing activities in Egypt and Russia.
